چکیده

Differential SAR interferometry with ERS data has a high potential for surface displacement mapping in the mm to m range. Such displacement information is of interest for the monitoring of phenomena as land subsidence, land slides, earthquakes, volcano swelling, and ice motion. In this contribution the maturity and operational readiness of the SAR interferometric technique are discussed, focusing on the subsidence application. The investigation is based on examples representing displacement velocities between a few mm/year and several m/year. Based on the investigated examples it is concluded that SAR interferometric subsidence mapping reached operational readiness.

Land Subsidence Monitoring with Differential SAR Interferometry

The potential of differential SAR interferometry for land subsidence monitoring is reported on. The principle of the technique and the approach to be used on a specific case are first presented. Then significant results using SAR data from the ERS satellites for various sites in Germany, Mexico, and Italy, representing fast (mlyear) to slow (mmlyear) deformation velocities, are discussed. The S...

Detecting Land Subsidence in Shanghai by PS-Networking SAR Interferometry

Existing studies have shown that satellite synthetic aperture radar (SAR) interferometry has two apparent drawbacks, i.e., temporal decorrelation and atmospheric contamination, in the application of deformation mapping. It is however possible to improve deformation analysis by tracking some natural or man-made objects with steady radar reflectivity, i.e., permanent scatterers (PS), in the frame...

Detection of Urban Land Subsidence in the City of Turku in Finland Using Differential Sar Interferometry

The centre of the Turku city by the river of Aurajoki in Finland has been built on clay and silt soil. The level of the ground water has been constantly lowering during the last few centuries due to the postglacial land uplift and extensive water usage leaving the old wooden pilework exposed to decaying. The decaying has led to the subsidence of some historical buildings in the old centre of Tu...
